FTP not working after switching to Business Level server

After years on a GoDaddy shared server, GoDaddy recommended I move to a Business level server.  All good but the FTP program I have used for many years WS_FTP will not connect to the Business level server.  It connected perfectly to the GoDaddy shared server for YEARS.

So I did not make any change on my end.  The only change was I'm trying to use my FTP program on a different GoDaddy server.

I get one of two error messages but they happen at the last step.

a) 425 Could not open data connection to port 50144 (sometimes 50611) : No route to host   ...or...

! Receive error Blocking  - call cancelled / DoDirList failed

So I really want my FTP program to work - I know FileZilla connects for me but it is the other FTP program that I've used forever that I'd like to know why it can't connect to this new GoDaddy server.  What parameter do I need to change in my old FTP program to be able to connect to this new Business level server?

The steps I get on my old FTP program are.
connecting to 132.148........
Connected to 132.148..... port 21
220 --- Welcome to Pure-FTPd [privsep][TLS] ---

220 You are user number 1 of 500 allowed

220 Local time is now...  Server port: 21

220- This is a private system - No anonymous login

220-IPv6 connections are also welcome on this server

220 You will be disconnected after 15 minutes of inactiviey

USER xxxxxxxxx

331 User xxxxxxxx OK.  Password required

PASS (hidden)

230 - Your bandwidth usage is restricted

230 OK  Current restricted directory is /

PWD

257 "/" is your current location

SYST

215 UNIX Type: L8

Host type (S): UNIX (standard)

PORT 172,31,10,32.........

200 PORT command successful

LIST

then the error....could not open data connection to port 50611: No route to host

I appreciate everyone reviewing this and it really is a big deal to me to stay with my tried and true FTP program that worked on the other GoDaddy shared servers.   I'd like to know why it doesn't work on the GoDaddy Business level server and what I need to do to get my tried and true FTP program to fully connect - it seems to get to the very last step and then gets rejected.

Thank you!

I get the same error when trying to do a regular DOS ftp connection.   It connects but when it tries to list the contents of the root it bombs.

Re: FTP not working after switching to Business Level server

I did a screen capture of the DOS running a simple FTP connection in the previous post but it is not showing so here it is:

D:\  ftp penningtxxxxx.com

Connected to penningtxxxxx.com

220---Welcome to PureFTPd  [privsep] [TLS]

220- Local time is now xxxx  Server port: 21

200 OK, UTF-8 enabled

User (penningtxxxx.com:(none)):   myusername

331 User myusername OK.  Password required

Password: xxxxxxxx

230-Your bandwidth usage is restricted

230 OK.  Current restricted directory is /

ftp>

So at this point I am logged in.   The error/bomb occurs when I try to display files within my current directory - that is also when my old FTP client program bombs - it does a successful login but when trying to display the files in the folder it bombs

ftp>   dir

200 Port command successful

425 Could not open data connection to port 49921:  Connection timed out

Also I can do the DOS login again then do a

ftp> put flighttimes.txt

200 PORT command successful

after a few seconds

425 Could not open data connection to port 49921:  Connection timed out

Solution

Re: FTP not working after switching to Business Level server

So if anyone gets this problem with their favorite FTP program - you need to checkbox "Passive Transfers" and your FTP program will work again.
